Established in January 2001 as Ravaglia Motorsport by former driver Roberto Ravaglia and Aldo Preo, the team assumed its current name, ROAL Motorsport, in 2006. The name ROAL is an acronym formed from the initials of the founders, Roberto and Aldo. The racing team is part of Group Motorsport BMW dealerships, one of the main BMW dealers in Italy.
ROAL Motorsport’s headquarters are located in Padova, near Venice. The team boasts its own technical department, directed by Italian engineer Pietro Speronello.
In the summer of 2003, the team began developing special controls mounted on the steering wheel for Alessandro Zanardi’s BMW 320i. This challenging project aimed to facilitate Zanardi’s return to racing after a severe crash in 2001. With support from BMW Motorsport, ROAL Motorsport engineers converted a BMW 320i to allow Zanardi to accelerate via the steering wheel and operate the clutch on the gear shift. Remarkably, Zanardi finished seventh in the final race of the FIA European Touring Car Championship in Monza, Italy.
In 2010, ROAL Motorsport designed and manufactured the BMW M3 coupé for the Superstars International Series, taking full responsibility for all aspects of the program.
In 2012, the team prepared the racing kit for the MINI Challenge Italia’s Cooper S. Since its founding in 2001, ROAL Motorsport has competed in major motorsport series for touring cars. By the end of the 2013 season, the team had participated in 315 races and secured 50 victories.
